“Get closer to the world of bees, hive and Bee keepers”
Colmenar Honey Museum, Nestled in the Northern Edge of The Malaga Mountains we find the lovely village of Colmenar.
Colmenar gained its name from an estate called “Colmena” which produced honey. “Colmena” in Spanish means beehive. Our first stop Colmenar Honey Museum, we will be shown a short video in English explaining the different honeys produced around the Malaga Region, then a short tour of the museum before the honey tasting session and an opportunity to make our own beeswax candle.
At the end of the tour, you will receive a gift including honey, honey spoon, sweets and a booklet on the different honey produced around Malaga. There is also a chance to purchase various products from the museum shop.
Aside from honey, Colmenar is also popular for Olive Oil, Bakery, fresh milled flour, natural sugars and woven products like baskets, mats and carpets made from natural fibres like esparta grass. After a short break in Colmenar we head to the Hives. Here is when we dress up as Bee Keepers in a full protective Bee Keeping Suit. IMPORTANT…..FULL FOOTWEAR MUST BE WORN, NO FLIP FLOPS OR SANDALS ALOWED. You may even get the chance to smoke a hive. We can see the different types of bees, the worker, the drone and the Queen. Also the honey and the wax, we learn how they protect themselves and lots more.
After the hives, a chance to relax, have a drink, eat, etc at Restaurant / Hotel Arco del Sol
A fun day to be had.
