Colmenar Honey Museum & Velez Malaga

LIMITED TO 20 PEOPLE

Nestled in the Northern Edge of The Malaga Mountains we find the lovely village of Colmenar.

Colmenar gained its name from an estate called “Colmena” which produced honey.  “Colmena” in Spanish means beehive.  We take the Guided tour of  The Honey Museum, Stand inside  “The Beehive Room ” just as if you were inside  a hive.  Enjoy the experience, make your own bees wax candle, dress up as bee keepers and  receive a gift.  Discover how many types of honey are produced in the Malaga Region.  There is a short walk in the campo to the hive,  where you MUST WEAR FULL SHOES,  no flip lops or sandals allowed.

Enjoy a different day out.

Other  products local to Colmenar, aside from honey, are Olive Oil, Bakery fresh milled flour, natural sugars and woven products like baskets, mats and carpets made from natural fibres like esparta grass.

We then leave Colmenar and take the short journey to Velez Malaga, a bustling market town and The Capital of the Axarquia Region of Malaga.  It is the centre of an agricultural area, known for its production of muscatel grapes and strawberries.  The town is a processing centre for Olive Oli and Sugar Cane.  It is also a predominant producer of ceramics.
