A visit to Madinat Al Zahara, known as The Lost City or The Medina Azahara is a MUST.
Literally meaning “The Shining City,” Medina Azahara is located West of Cordoba and are the ruins of an Andalus palace city, vast and fortified. Built by Abd-ar-Rahman11 (912 – 961). The First Umayyad Caliph of Cordoba. The Medina was the de facto Capital of Al- Andalus or Muslim Spain as the centre of administration and Government was managed within its walls.
The City was abandoned in 1010 through civil war and excavation started in the 1910’s. It is now declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Upon leaving The Medina our excursion continues to Cordoba to enjoy free time and discover this wonderful city.
