Ronda The Royal Fair of May, The Folklore Festival Ronda Romantica
This annual event is a re-enactment of the romantic past era of Ronda. This fair was once the most famous and busiest fair in Andalucia, beginning in 1501 as a cattle fair. During the 19th Century, the fair became a meeting point for European and North American travelers. Bandits, smugglers, writers and craftsmen all came in search of adventure. Many adventurers hoped to meet the famous bandits, some would even be ready carrying a small amount of money or valuables. Not meeting the bandits could be quite a disappointment to the traveler.
Some of the famous bandits of the era include: El Tempranillo (1805-1833), El Pernales (1879-1907) and Pasos Largos (1873- 1934)
Today during this 5 day event Ronda seeks to recreate the historical atmosphere with costumes, re enactments and various other activities along with a market typical of the era.

You can also visit The Bandit Museum, The Bull Ring, The Lara Museum & The Arab Baths and of course not forgetting the most famous feature of Ronda, El Tajo, the 500ft gorge which seperates the old town from the new town.
And last but not least The Statues of Orson Welles and Ernest Hemmingway on Paseo Blas Infante both writers having spent a lot of time in Ronda
