Seville at Feria Time. April Spring Fair in Seville
The Spring Fair in Seville, often called the Seville April Fair, is probably the largest, most elaborate and most colourful event in the calendar in Andalucia. The event attracts visitors from all over and takes place two weeks after (Easter) Semana Santa, lasting an entire week during which 24hr partying starts and normal life in the city more or less comes to a standstill.
The event centres the Los Remedios neighbourhood where the huge Fair Ground is located. Over 1000 “casetas”, (hospitality tents) are erected by local businesses, notable families, clubs and political parties. Many are private but many are open for everybody. These ” casetas” are traditionally green and red striped canvas with more elaborate decorations applied by the host.
Each of the six districts of Seville host a ‘free’ caseta and there are special ones for tourists. You can expect a bar, music, entertainment, drinking, dancing and of course Flamenco and lots of traditional food. The ladies dress in traditional flamenco dresses whilst the gentlemen wear the traditional short jacket and broad rimmed hat.
Besides the Fair Ground, many parade around the city during Feria week on horseback or in elaborately decorated horse drawn carriages. The feria gets going about noon each day and the celebrations continue until the early hours of the morning. Expect anything to happen anywhere. Feria in Seville is impromtu with random street parties springing up, anything can happen in any of the bars and restaurants. There are daily processions of carriages and riders through the city. As always great places to enjoy the spirit of the fiesta and people watch are Parque De Marie Luisa and nearby Plaza de Espana.
We park on Avda de Portugal which is in between Plaza de Espana & Maria Luisa. Park
