TARIFA, set amongst stunning beaches with its Castillo de Guzman dating from the 10th Century is a very bohemian, cosmopolitan historical town.  It is the southernmost point of mainland Spain and Europe, only 14km separate Tarifa from Africa, through the Strait of Gibraltar.  Today Tarifa is world-famous for Kiting and Surfing.  It has one of the largest windfarms in Europe blending with the fabulous landscape. Historically Tarifa has suffered many conquests but has still managed to preserve its Od Arab Fortress.

In 2003 Tarifa was declared as a Site of Cultural Interest. Walk through The Puerta de Jerez, one of only four medieval entrances remaining, and you will find yourself in the old town, a densely packed maze of cobbled streets, pretty squares, artisan shops and whitewashed houses.  The central Square is Plaza de Santa Maria affectionately known as Plaza de la Ranita (Little Frog Square).  You’ll see why.

The 9th edition of the Ruta del Iberico of Tarifa is taking place this week, which coincides with the holidays.  This is a cultural and gastronomical event. There is no agenda available at the time of publishing, will update as soon as I have more information. This aside Tarifa is a fabulous place to visit.

Baelo Claudia, an ancient Roman town, originally a fishing village. Excavations have revealed it to be the most comprehensive remains of a Roman Town in the whole of The Iberian Peninsula. You can see The Basilica, theatre, market and The Temple of Isis. Located in the spectacular surroundings of El Estrecho National Park with views of the coast of Morocco. There is also a visitors centre.
